(Sarasota, FL, March 9, 2009): Marie Selby Botanical Gardens for the fifth consecutive year is sponsoring Rainforest Masks 2009 of the Borucan Indians of Costa Rica. This exhibit is sponsored by la vista verde and The Tourist Development Council.
The Rainforest Mask exhibit runs through April 17, 2009 and is included in regular Gardens’ admission. You can meet the artists from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Museum of Botany and the Arts at the Mansion on March 14 and 15. Watch the Borucan artists carving and painting these incredible, one of a kind masks.
C.J and Marilynn Shelley offer a lecture titled, “The Road to Boruca and Beyond” in the Cooley Theater at Selby Gardens on March 10, 2009 from Noon to 1:00 p.m. This free lecture will include a travelogue with images of Costa Rica and the indigenous village of Boruca.
Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a respected center for research and education as well as a famous orchid showplace. The Gardens are located at 811 South Palm Avenue in Sarasota, Florida, and they are open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily with the exception of Christmas day.
