IB Visual Arts, Riverview High School Art Exhibit

In January, MaryFran Cardamone, the mixed media artist whose Florida Fantastica exhibit is currently on display in Selby's Museum of Botany & the Arts, made a classroom visit to meet Jackie Henson-Dacey's 10th grade International Baccalaureate Visual Arts students at Riverview High School.

After studying the artist's work, the class visited Selby to see the exhibit firsthand. Their visit also included a special tour of the Gardens and a behind-the-scenes visit with the Botany Department.

Back in the classroom the students researched and explored the interdisciplinary connections between botany and the visual arts, gaining an appreciation for local plant conservation.  They learned about the historical and scientific aspects of plants in our local area, as well as from different countries.

The unique collages that are currently on display in the Historic Selby House were created as a result of their interactions with and inspiration from the artist and the Gardens.

See the Riverview High School students' original compositions 10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily, through February 20, 2013.
