The HGTV 2009 Green Home Architect Michael Carlson will offer behind-the-scenes insights into his firm’s involvement designing this year’s HGTV Green Home at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens on October 19, 2009. Marie Selby Associates are hosting this meeting in the Great Room by the Bay at 11:30 a.m.
Located in Port St. Lucie, FL and designed by Carlson Studio Architecture, this 2,400 square-foot LEED for Homes Platinum-certified home is expected to attract more than 20 million entries during an 8-week drawing to give away the house – fully furnished with a hybrid SUV. It is only one of four LEED Platinum Homes in all of Florida. From the outset, designers, energy experts, and construction specialists worked together to develop a comprehensive approach to the project. The innovative team resolved some unusual design challenges through a series of charrettes, design coordination meetings and whole systems thinking. The premier of the HGTV broadcast showcasing the home first aired on April 19, 2009. The show producers were determined to demonstrate that being green doesn’t have to be “extreme.”
