In this presentation, Mr. Armstrong will review the history of botanical illustration, with classical examples, and focus on images that Dali utilized not only in this suite of images, but throughout his oeuvre.
Dirk Armstrong is Assistant Curator at the Salvador Dalí Museum where he coordinated gallery rotations and exhibitions among other museum duties such as writing gallery labels and text. Since 1995, he has been a courier for loans that have sent him to many destinations including Brazil, Japan, Australia, Spain, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Scotland, England, France, Switzerland and Italy. Mr. Armstrong has curated both print and painting exhibits since 2002. The most recent project that Mr. Armstrong supervised was the return of loaned works to the Centre Georges Pompidou, and the coordination of loan activity to The Saint Louis Museum of Art and the Arp Museum- Bahnhof. Mr. Armstrong is a graduate of Erskine College.
