Endless Forms: What Really Turned Darwin On

Using high-impact visuals, Toscano will demonstrate why orchids are considered the sexiest of all plants. Charles Darwin was fascinated by orchids, so irresistible to pollinators, which  inspired him while writing On the Origin of Species.

The title of this year’s Orchid Show derives from the closing paragraph of On the Origin of Species, published on 24 November 1859, a work of scientific literature by Charles Darwin  considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology. The paragraph reads “There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.”
