Join us for the Friends of the Gardens-Selby Associates annual business meeting to consider a by-law change and to discuss programming for next year.
SPEAKER: Charles Sobczak, author. His topic will be The Great Florida Invasion, takes a fascinating look at the many invasive species that have arrived in Florida throughout recorded history.
Mr. Sobczak lives and writes on Sanibel Island, Florida. He is the author of five novels and three non-fiction titles. His latest nature guide, The Living Gulf Coast – A Nature Guide to Southwest Florida, won the Gold Medal Presidents Award for the best work of Adult non-fiction, 2011, by the Florida Publisher’s Association. The book covers all the birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians living within the six county region as well as 161 parks, preserves and eco-destinations where residents and visitors can discover these birds and animals in the wild.
The book was featured in an April, 2014 broadcast on Book TV’s Cities Tour when they filmed the best nature places to visit in Ft. Myers, Florida. The Living Gulf Coast is now officially out of print except for a handful of copies that will be available after the presentation.
Sobczak has been a featured lecturer for more than a decade with the national Road Scholar Program, and has done numerous presentations for groups along the Gulf Coast. His style is sometimes referred to as “eco-tainment” because he combines humor along with the serious issues facing the future of life on earth.
Plan to join us for this very special presentation, an excellent Michael’s on East luncheon, information about our upcoming season, and door prizes (yes, plural). See you there!
The Friends of the Gardens is open to all members of Selby Gardens.
