Events, Lectures and Classes Support the Six-Week 2016 Orchid Show

November 13, 2015

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is marking its 40th anniversary year in with an international Orchid show in February 2016.

More than 1,000 orchids from the sub-tropics and tropics of the Americas will be on display February 14 – March 27, 2016 at the Gardens’ conservatory for The Orchid Show: Celebrating 40 Years at Selby Gardens. Visitors to the Gardens enjoy the show as part of the larger visitor experience at Selby Gardens, which is the world’s only garden committed to the study and preservation of epiphytes, which include orchids.

“The Orchid Show is going to be a spectacle of orchids,” said Jennifer O. Rominiecki, President and CEO of Selby Gardens. “The Gardens’ conservatory will feature a stunning array of orchids showing the depth and breadth of this species and of the entire Gardens’ collection.”

The Orchid Show display will be the high point of Selby Gardens’ fortieth anniversary year, which began July 2015. The show is presented by Better-Gro, a national gardening product retailer.

A collection of events, lectures and classes will be offered throughout the run of the show. Activities include:

Selby Gardens’ own orchidologist, Dr. Toscano deBrito, will shed light on the mysteries of the orchid family, from its myriad forms and varied scents. The discussion will also examine the impact this complex plant family has made in the realms of poetry, perfume, edible delicacies and of course, love and romance.
