SARASOTA, FLA. – September 27, 2016: Selby Gardens, which usually closes well before sunset at 5 p.m., will host a six-week series of nighttime sunset celebrations beginning Oct. 19.

Known as “Sunsets at Selby’s Secret Garden,” the weekly after-hours events give visitors an opportunity to take in the bayfront sunset at the Gardens, as well as its latest exhibit, along with food, craft cocktails and live entertainment.

“Sunsets” runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and includes hors d’oeuvres and a complimentary cocktail from Michael’s On East. Visitors will also be able to tour the Conservatory, a greenhouse that has been decorated in the tradition of a Victorian greenhouse.

“It’s almost like a time machine to a greenhouse that has been left undisturbed for nearly 100 years,” said Mike McLaughlin, Sr. Director of Horticulture at Selby Gardens. “You’ll feel like you happened upon a hidden world.”

The events are part of the ongoing exhibit, “Selby’s Secret Garden,” which celebrates the golden age of botanical discovery. In addition to the conservatory display of rare living plants, the Museum of Botany & the Arts in historic Payne Mansion showcases rare botanical artwork and books from the mid-1700s that are part of the Gardens’ preserved collection.

Tickets for “Sunsets” are $50 Selby Gardens Members or $50 for guests. Visit www.selby.org for online ticket purchases and more details.
