Selby Gardens Appoints Deming Chief Operating Officer

Expertise in governance, human resources and strategic management will unify the botanical garden’s operations and future expansion.

SARASOTA, Fla., May 29, 2018 – Marie Selby Botanical Gardens has appointed a new Chief Operating Officer.

Wendy Deming will assume the new role of Chief Operating Officer at Selby Gardens on July 9.

Wendy Deming will assume the leadership role beginning July 9. In this new position Deming will guide Selby Gardens’ strategic operations during a time of significant growth, overseeing human resources, finance, governance and also daily operations.

“Wendy will no doubt help Selby Gardens further strengthen our organization with sound practices as we continue our growth and expansion,” said Jennifer O. Rominiecki, President & CEO of Selby Gardens.

Deming brings nearly 20 years of non-profit management to the organization. She served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Staff at Gulf Coast Community Foundation, as well as corporate secretary and board liaison. Deming holds a master’s degree in business administration from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Furman University.

Selby Gardens has marked significant growth in the last several years with double-digit percentage increases in admission, membership, donations and event and retail revenue. As the only botanical garden in the world dedicated to the study of epiphytes, or air plants such as orchids, bromeliads, gesneriads and ferns, the research institution recently announced the creation of a master site plan that will redevelop its 15-acre bayfront property over the next 10 years.
