Selby Gardens has been honored with multiple “Best of SRQ Local” accolades thanks to the readers of SRQ Magazine for the publication’s 2016 awards.
In the April 2016 issue of the magazine, look for Marie Selby Botanical Gardens receiving top billing as “Best Children’s Attraction” in Sarasota, and our annual fundraising event, Orchid Ball, as “Best Gala.”
The Gardens was also recognized as runner-up finalists in both the “Best Non-Profit Organization” and “Best Non-Profit Executive,” for the leadership of our CEO & President, Jennifer O. Rominiecki.
“Acknowledgement like this from the community that Selby Gardens is an important part of life in Sarasota for families, and of our mission-based work in conservation and education are greatly appreciated,” said Rominiecki.
The Gardens’ Ann Goldstein Children’s Rainforest Garden has attracted thousands of families since it opened in late 2013. The outdoor playground and exploration area includes a canopy walk and rope bridges, a research station, play lawn and gardening area, as well as the “Epiphyte Canyon” where children can explore caves and discover how plants can grow in different ways.
The 2016 Orchid Ball was chaired by Liebe Gamble, Rochelle Nigri and Kara Saunders, accompanied by honorary chairs Margie Cooper and Jenn Stutler. Proceeds from the event support Selby Gardens’ education programs, world-class beautiful displays and ongoing plant research to help children and families develop an appreciation for nature.
The Best of SRQ Local awards voting took place Oct. 27, 2015 – Feb. 15, 2016.
