Topiary Therapy with Mike Gibson
Join master topiary artist, Mike Gibson, for a fun and relaxing workshop on the art of topiary! Explore the calming process of sculpting topiary while also learning creative pruning techniques. Each participant will get to clip and take home their very own work of living art from a small shrub. All tools will be provided. This experience is sure to leave you refreshed and feeling inspired!
Register for either Saturday or Sunday. These are single session classes and will cover the same information on both days.
- General admission is included in the course fee. We encourage you to stay and enjoy the Gardens after class.
- All horticultural materials and tools for this workshop- including the plant!- are included in the tuition.
- You will be working with live plants, soil, and garden tools- feel free to bring a favorite pair of gardening gloves if you have them.

About the Instructor:
Mike P. Gibson, a world-renowned self-taught topiary artist from Youngstown, OH, has over 30 years of experience beautifying public spaces and provate landscapes. Founder of Gibson Works LLC, he is the nation’s leading educator on the art of topiary and has created more than 600 unique topiaries nationwide. He was a contestant on HGTV’s Clipped, hosted by Martha Stewart; completed an artist-in-residency at the famed Pearl Fryar’s Topiary Garden; and most recently received the 2024 Sowing Excellence Award from the American Public Gardens Association. He holds several professional credentials including SC Certified Landscape Professional and Therapeutic Horticulture Practitioner. Gibson leads lectures, demonstrations, and Topiary Therapy workshops, sharing the therapeutic benefits of this art form while connecting people to nature. He currently lives in Columbia, SC, with his wife and two children.
