Bioblitz Group Selby Gardens

Bioblitz Group in the field.

The goal of the Sarasota-Manatee EcoFlora project is to enlist the help of citizens in documenting the diversity and distribution of plants in Sarasota and Manatee Counties, utilizing the iNaturalist app and website. You don’t have to be a professional naturalist, botanist, or photographer to be a helpful citizen scientist. Together we can collect data that reflects our local biodiversity to better inform policy decisions about management and conservation of natural resources.

Each month we create new EcoQuests, in which we feature a species or set of species of special significance. The EcoQuest for March is Check Your Boots! Help us document what is growing in the bootjacks of cabbage palms. To learn more, click here.

See what it’s like to be a botanist out in the field! Each month we host a Bioblitz at a local park or preserve in Sarasota or Manatee County. Join Marie Selby Botanical Gardens’ Botany Team, as they conduct a plant inventory. This is your chance to learn from experienced botanists, and hone your observation skills. Email ecoflora@selby.org to learn more about our upcoming Bioblitz or the project in general.

The Sarasota-Manatee EcoFlora Project continues to grow each month. As you can see in the stats here, we have identified over 1,474 species in our area!
