Selby Gardens is excited to announce an opportunity for individuals to purchase landscape paintings by several “Florida Highwaymen,” African American landscape painters. The Art Fair and Sale Weekend will take place Saturday and Sunday, August 21 and 22, 2021, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Downtown Sarasota campus. We Dream A World: African American Landscape Painters of Mid-Century Florida, The Highwaymen is on view at Selby Gardens’ Downtown Sarasota campus through September 26.
The following artists will be featured:
- Kandie Ingram: Daughter of Mary Ann Carroll, whose paintings are exhibited in We Dream A World: The Highwayment. Kandie will sell reproductions of Mary Ann Carroll’s paintings.
- Isaac Knight: Isaac will sell his original paintings and will present a live painting demonstration.
- Curtis Arnett: Curtis will sell his original works as well as reproductions and will present a live painting demonstration.
All proceeds will directly benefit the artists. Access to the Art Fair and Sale Weekend is included with daily admission and is FREE to Selby Gardens’ members.
Guided talks of the exhibit in the Museum of Botany & the Arts will take place throughout the day. Limited availability. First come, first served. Miss Susie’s Newtown Kitchen food truck will serve food that speaks to your soul and will be onsite both days from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with food and beverages available for purchase.
We Dream A World: African American Landscape Painters of Mid-Century Florida, The Highwaymen is presented in partnership with the Sarasota African American Cultural Coalition and is sponsored by Williams, Parker, Harrison, Dietz, and Getzen and Isabel Becker.
