Virtual 50th Anniversary Briefing: Treasures of the Downtown Sarasota Campus

Where can you find two of Sarasota’s most important historical buildings as well as one of the first paved roads, all within a bayfront sanctuary located in downtown Sarasota?   At Marie Selby Botanical Gardens of course!   In addition to housing the world’s largest scientifically documented collection of orchids and epiphytes, Selby Gardens’ Downtown Sarasota Campus also preserves quite a bit of Sarasota history!  These historical treasures include one of Sarasota’s first brick streets, the 1921 Selby House and the 1935 Payne Mansion.  These landmarks have been a part of the success of Sarasota as a growing community and have also played a major role in the development of Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.  This program will share the early and recent history of these Treasures of the Downtown Sarasota Campus.   Please join us for this illustrated virtual program hosted by V.P. for Regional History John McCarthy, at noon on May 15th, 2024.
